makeover monday

i've wanted to make this for a long time and finally found all my supplies for it.

i took simple yard sticks and turned them into a coat rack.

supplies
5 yard sticks
5 hooks
wood for frame
liquid nail
screws

i got my man to help me on this one. he built a frame to attach the yard sticks to.

after the frame was built, he used liquid nail to attach the yard sticks. once it was dry, he screwed in the hooks.

all finished and we hung it up in the living room.

happy monday!

soccer banquet

soccer season has come to an end and last weekend we went to our little lady's soccer banquet.

she received her award and metal. she got really shy when they were talking about her.
there was also a very special guest that came. Wells Thompson, professional soccer player for the Colorado Rapids came and spoke. he is a Christian and talked about his faith.

she got his autograph too!

i (heart) hoop art

i got the inspiration for this project here.

i used 3 pipe cleaners and connected them together. then i shaped it into my word...love.

i took yarn and just randomly wrapped it around the pipe cleaners.

it took me about an hour to do and i enjoyed it thoroughly. i just sat quietly working on it...no music or tv in the background. one kiddo was napping and the other was at school. moments of quietness don't happen very often, so it's nice to be still when it does.

i used a hoop and placed aqua fabric in it.

i just glued the word onto the fabric and it was complete!

i hung it up in my family room...it's just too cute!

real life, one day at a time...

1 thing i'm thankful for...my bible study ladies! i love that they give me so much insight, love and support!

playing...in the snow.

unexpected blessing...a great email from my friend, kristen! it's so hard not getting to see the people you love and cherish so much! i miss you a ton!

reading...love & war. it's my man's favorite author. i think he actually has a man crush on him!

eating...pumpkin muffins

happy about...my new coat rack my man made me! i can't wait to show you!

entertaining ourselves with this...friday night lights. it's not on tv anymore but i checked it out at the library. good recommendation, mandy!

artistically attempting to...make our halloween costumes. any guesses as to what it may be???

ready to wear...all my boots! i don't like cold feet!

trying to get use to...this crazy weather. just 2 days ago it was 80 degrees.

things are falling

yesterday, was 80 degrees.

we spent most of the day outside preparing for tomorrow.

the weather forecast for tomorrow will drop into the teens. YIKES!

i'm not quite use to the dramatic changes in temperature. outside it looks like it is raining, but instead of raindrops, it's leaves.

in one week our big tree has gone from this...

to this...

it's great for jumping in piles of leaves!

pumpkin pot pies

this is one of my favorite fall items to make. it looks real fancy and really isn't that hard.

the hardest part, would be removing all the flesh and seeds from the pumpkins. i had a little one help me with that.

i placed the pumpkins in the oven and cooked them for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

i made my pot pie mixture and place it in the pumpkins. i followed this recipe.

then i added the pie crust and put it back in the oven.

what are your favorite fall foods?

the other day, my little lady and i made these for our family fun night.

i wanted something special, since we were having a nice dinner. i have always wanted to make whoopie pies and this recipe didn't disappoint!

seriously, they are AMAZING! so stinkin' good!

i found the recipe here. i'm having friends over next week and these are on the menu for our girl's night!

yummy...i can't wait!

change

i always love to reorganize and change things.

my parents can attest to that. growing up, at least twice a month my room was rearranged. i never asked for help moving the furniture, but my parents always knew what was going on...melissa, at it again.

we've lived in our house for a year and it was time to shake things up in the kitchen.

while my little lady was at kindergarten, and my little guy was napping, i had 2 blissful hours to reorganize my kitchen.

i wanted a bit of background noise, so this was playing and i got busy cleaning.

out came everything and i changed it up a bit.

this is as clean as it will ever be.

i'm sure in a couple of hours it won't look like this again!

but it makes me smile for the time being!

a bit of fall goodness

the weather here is kind of crazy...i guess that's what fall brings. snow falling one day and then the next day, i'm outside in shorts and flip flops.

one thing i do like about fall, i love to try new recipes and enjoy all the yummy fall foods.

instead of buying canned pumpkin puree this year, i decided to buy some sugar pumpkins and make my own puree. it's really very easy!

cut them in half, lay them face down on a baking sheet, cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.

allow for it to cool for a bit and then scoop out the flesh and mash. i just used my potato masher. now it's ready to add to some great recipes!

you can't cut open a pumpkin without roasting some pumpkin seeds. i sprayed them with a bit of PAM and added salt, then cooked them in the oven for 25 minutes on 350 degrees.

apple chips...sliced 5 apples thinly, then sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. i laid then on a baking sheet and baked them at 225 degrees for 2 hours. i turned off the oven and allowed them dry up over night in the oven. they weren't quite as crunchy as i was hoping, but they are still very good!

apple smiles...this is one of my little lady's fall favorites!

spider and spiderweb pancakes

this morning began with this...

pumpkin pancakes and black cinnamon syrup...they tasted so good!

i found the idea here. i made the pancake batter a couple of days ago and put it in the freezer until we were ready to use it.

my week is looking a bit full...
bible study
MOPS
Awana
dentist appointments
soccer

what are you doing this week?

i've got lots of yummy posts coming this week!

happy monday!

corn wreath

supplies
white and green construction paper
yellow, orange, red and brown paper
bubble wrap
twine

we painted our construction paper using pieces of bubble wrap. it gives the look of the individual kernels on a corn cob.

after it was dry, we cut them out and added some green to make the corn husks.

using a piece of cardboard, we made our wreath form and glued on the the corn. i added a piece of twine to hang the wreath from.
