felt leaf garland

this was a simple project and great way to add a bit of fall to my house.

supplies
different colors of felt
twine or yarn
a large needle
scissors

first, i cut leaves out of felt.

then i threaded the twine through my needle and stiched it through the felt leaves.

i hung it over my fireplace. i like the garland next to the brick.

papier-mache pumpkins

i saw this idea from martha stewart's magazine years ago and finally got around to making it.

supplies
orange balloons
yellow and orange tissue paper
mod podge

i cut the tissue paper into strips.

then i brushed glue onto the balloon and add layers of tissue paper.

i used a clothes pin and hung the balloon up to dry. i let is dry for 24 hours before cutting out the face and an opening at the top and bottom.

peach cobbler

the other night we did a stay-at-home date night after the kids were in bed. we take turns planning the evening and it was my turn.

we made peach cobbler together. we tried a new recipe from Paula Deen and her two sons. i had never made peach cobbler this way, so i was a bit skeptical as to how it would turn out. but i figured if it was Paula's recipe, then it had to be good.

it did not disappoint...so stinkin' good!

looks good, huh? go get yourself some peaches and make it!

miscellaneous monday

last night i went on a date with my man. we saw this...
it was a good movie! when i think about fall, baseball always comes to mind. i love hearing the playoffs in the background on a crisp fall day.

today, i'm working on a bit of painting.

two tables that are in my family room are getting painted. they were brown, and will be white when i'm finished.
yes, that's me with no makeup on!

who wants to put on makeup when all your doing is painting???

i bought this rug for my family room.

which has inspired me to paint one of the walls a light yellow. i'm still deciding which one to pick.

my little lady hanging out while i prepped the tables for painting.

happy monday!

our anniversary is always the first day of fall, so i thought i would share this with you...

my family loved our summer fun list, so i thought i would do one for fall.

egg rolls

asian cuisine is a must in our house! i got a lot better at it when we lived in PNG. i've used this recipe here for years and we just love it! the recipe calls for mushrooms, but i don't put them in. instead i put some cooked chicken in with all the veggies to make it more of a meal than an appetizer. i usually serve it with fried rice.

soccer

our little lady had her first soccer game last weekend. it was my first time to a soccer game too! the kiddos were so cute and i just loved seeing her all dressed up in her uniform.

go usa rattlesnakes! that's their team name that the kids came up with...pretty cute!

makeover monday

i found this flower frog at a charming little antique store. flower frogs were made of metal and were used in fresh floral arrangements to hold the flowers. now days, people use them for other things. i'm using mine in my kitchen to hold recipe cards or a bible verse.

happy monday!

christian the hugging lion

we go to the library often in this house.

check out 60-70 books at a time.

i have to bring in the stroller, not for the kids, but a way for us to load up all the book we want to check out.

we probably look crazy to most people. i really should get a picture of it.

this is one of the books, i randomly picked out for the kids.

it's an amazing story! a true story too!

you all should read it and then watch the youtube video of it online. we all loved it and were amazed by it!

i'm still amazed.

a frozen treat

we've been waiting for this all summer!

you wouldn't think we'd have to wait all summer for the ice cream truck to drive down our street. i guess there aren't many ice cream trucks these days or they don't come around our neck of the woods.

my kids were excited! it was on our summer fun list and we can now check it off the list.

i can't believe how much a frozen treat costs from the ice cream truck! good thing it doesn't come around too much!

bible study & art

two things i love...

God's Word and art.

really, for me, getting to be fed spiritually and creatively, really doesn't get much better!

i love being creative because it does some of the same things for me as reading the Bible...it energizes me, brings me peace and fills me up. it helps me from feeling frantic, crazy and on some days feeling like i'm going to lose it.

we all have those days...right? like we are a second from losing it.

if i miss a day without time in God's Word, then i probably do lose it. it's a battle, but everyday i try to get fed because i desperately need it. i need to feed my soul.

it's what keeps me going, brings me peace and has allowed me to be so much more relaxed, spontaneous, and full of joy!

what gives you energy or fills you up?

makeover monday

i've been working on making our basement a bit more colorful. we use our basement as a playroom/craft room. it was a bit drab, so i've been hanging a mixture of artwork up on the wall. i'm hoping to fill the wall with different things...homemade artwork, things i've bought and some travel souvenirs.

colorful streamers

i found this great idea here for colorful streamers and thought i would make some for my little guy's birthday.

i took different color streamers and sewed them together. for some i used 3 different colors and on others i only used 2 different colors.

i loved the way they turned out and i'm sure they will be reused in the future!

cardboard cars

for my little guy's birthday, i wanted to make cars out of cardboard boxes. my little guy had never seen the first CARS movie, so i thought it would be fun to have the kids sit in their cars and watch the movie, like they were at a drive-in.

i started with a medium size cardboard box that i purchased at the home depot. i cut some of the top lid off and used the pieces to form it into a car. i used blue painters tape to tape the pieces together.

i made lightening mcqueen, filmore and tow mater. i used a piece of poster board for the front of filmore, so that it would have more of a curved front like a true vw bus.

my man helped me spray paint each of the cars.

then i began decorating them, to give them their unique look.

i just loved the way they turned out. to see pictures of the kids in them, go here.

i'm sure we will have more drive-in nights to come!
